Spruce Knob is West Virginia's highest point at 4,863 feet, located in the Monongahela National Forest. The summit features an observation tower providing panoramic views of the surrounding Allegheny Mountains. The area is accessible by car and offers excellent camping and hiking opportunities.
History
Named for the red spruce trees that dominate the high elevations, Spruce Knob sits in an area that was heavily logged in the early 1900s. The forest has since regenerated, and the area now provides important habitat for various wildlife species and serves as a popular recreation destination.
