History
Named after Josiah Whitney, the State Geologist of California, Mount Whitney was first climbed in 1873 by Charles Begole, A.H. Johnson, and John Lucas. The peak sits on the boundary of Sequoia National Park and the John Muir Wilderness, making it a crown jewel of California's wilderness areas.
