Mount Washington is New Hampshire's highest point at 6,288 feet and famous for having some of the world's worst weather. Located in the White Mountains, the summit can be reached by hiking, driving the auto road, or taking the cog railway. The mountain holds the world record for the highest surface wind speed at 231 mph.
History
Named after George Washington, the mountain has been a weather observatory since 1932. The extreme weather conditions, including hurricane-force winds and rapid weather changes, have made it a legendary peak among hikers and meteorologists alike.
