The summit can be reached by hiking or via the toll road and gondola at Stowe Mountain Resort. The mountain hosts rare alpine vegetation above treeline.
History
Named for its resemblance to a human face in profile, Mount Mansfield has been a prominent landmark since colonial times. The mountain is home to Vermont's only alpine tundra and has been the site of scientific research on high-elevation ecosystems since the early 1900s.
