Kings Peak is Utah's highest point at 13,534 feet, located in the Uinta Mountains. This peak requires a long backpacking approach through the High Uintas Wilderness. The mountain offers excellent alpine scenery and is part of one of the few major east-west trending mountain ranges in the contiguous United States.
History
Named for Clarence King, a geologist and first director of the United States Geological Survey, Kings Peak was first climbed in 1875 by members of the Hayden Survey. The peak is located entirely within the High Uintas Wilderness, requiring a multi-day backpacking trip to reach.
