#14About Guadalupe Peak
Guadalupe Peak is Texas's highest point at 8,751 feet, located in Guadalupe Mountains National Park. This peak offers a strenuous but non-technical hike through Chihuahuan Desert terrain to a forested summit. The trail provides excellent views of the surrounding desert and the distinctive El Capitan cliff face.
History
Part of an ancient fossilized reef system, Guadalupe Peak sits atop what was once a barrier reef in an ancient sea. The mountain and surrounding area became a national park in 1972, preserving both the geological wonder and diverse desert ecosystems of the region.
