Granite Peak
#10About Granite Peak
Granite Peak is Montana's highest point at 12,807 feet and is considered one of the most challenging state high points to reach. Located in the Beartooth Mountains, it requires technical rock climbing skills and is often approached as a multi-day expedition. The peak offers spectacular alpine scenery in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness.
History
First climbed in 1923 by Elers Koch, Granite Peak remained the last state high point to be climbed. The peak's remote location and technical difficulty have kept it as one of the most challenging objectives in the state high point challenge, requiring advanced mountaineering skills.
