Gannett Peak is Wyoming's highest point at 13,809 feet, located in the Wind River Range. This remote peak requires a multi-day backpacking approach and technical climbing skills. The mountain is situated in the Bridger Wilderness and offers some of the most pristine alpine scenery in the American West.
History
Named after Henry Gannett, a geographer with the Hayden Survey, Gannett Peak was first climbed in 1922 by Arthur Tate and Floyd Stahlnaker. The peak remains one of the most challenging state high points to reach due to its remote location and technical climbing requirements.
