Denali
#1About Denali
Denali, formerly known as Mount McKinley, is the highest peak in North America at 20,310 feet. Located in Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska, this massive mountain is considered one of the most challenging and prestigious climbs in the world. The mountain's extreme weather, altitude, and remote location make it a serious mountaineering objective requiring advanced skills and extensive preparation.
History
Originally called Denali by the native Koyukon people, the mountain was renamed Mount McKinley in 1896 after President William McKinley. In 2015, the name was officially changed back to Denali. The first successful ascent was in 1913 by Hudson Stuck, Harry Karstens, Walter Harper, and Robert Tatum. Denali is not only Alaska's high point but the highest peak in all of North America.
