History
Mount Willey was named after Samuel Willey Jr., whose family perished in a tragic landslide in Crawford Notch in 1826. The disaster drew attention to the area and helped establish it as a tourist destination. The mountain has been a hiking destination since the mid-1800s and remains a popular peak for its historical significance and beautiful views.
