South Hancock Mountain
#26About South Hancock Mountain
South Hancock Mountain stands at 4,319 feet and features excellent summit views, particularly from ledges on the south and west sides. The peak is typically climbed via the Hancock Loop Trail in combination with Mount Hancock. The summit offers dramatic views into the Pemigewasset Wilderness.
History
Like its northern neighbor, South Hancock was named after John Hancock. The mountain became a popular hiking destination in the mid-20th century as the NH 48 4,000-footer list gained popularity. The loop trail connecting both Hancock peaks is considered one of the more scenic moderate hikes in the region.
