#19About South Carter Mountain
South Carter Mountain reaches 4,430 feet and features a wooded summit with a side trail leading to an excellent viewpoint. The mountain is part of the Carter-Moriah Range and offers a quieter hiking experience compared to the nearby Presidential Range. The summit provides views towards Mount Moriah and the Wild River Valley.
History
Like the other Carter peaks, South Carter was named after Dr. Ezra Carter. The mountain became part of the established trail network in the early 1900s. It is often climbed as part of the Carter-Moriah Range traverse or accessed from the Carter Notch area.
