Mount Carrigain
#13About Mount Carrigain
Mount Carrigain reaches 4,700 feet and is famous for its fire tower, which provides arguably the best 360-degree views in the White Mountains. The tower offers spectacular panoramas of the Pemigewasset Wilderness and surrounding peaks. The summit is accessible via the Signal Ridge Trail, which features beautiful forest scenery and several viewpoints along the way.
History
Named after Philip Carrigain, who created the first detailed map of New Hampshire in 1816, the mountain has been a landmark in the Pemigewasset region. The fire tower was built in 1914 and remains one of the few fire towers in the Whites that hikers can still climb. The mountain's prominent position makes it a popular destination for peak baggers and photographers.
