About Mount Mansfield
Mount Mansfield is Vermont's highest peak at 4,395 feet. The mountain's profile resembles a human face, with named features including the Forehead, Nose, Upper Lip, Lower Lip, and Chin (the summit). The extensive alpine zone supports rare arctic-alpine plants, and the mountain is home to Stowe Mountain Resort.
History
Mount Mansfield has been a landmark since European settlement of Vermont. The summit ridge has been popular with hikers since the mid-1800s, and the historic Stone Hut was built on the ridgeline in 1936. The Long Trail, America's oldest long-distance hiking trail, traverses the summit.
