Mount Breitenbach reaches 12,140 feet in the Lost River Range, standing as Idaho's fifth highest peak. This challenging summit requires technical mountaineering skills and offers excellent training for more difficult peaks in the range. The climb involves steep talus slopes and some exposed scrambling, providing climbers with spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness areas.
History
Mount Breitenbach is named after Jake Breitenbach, a climber who died in an avalanche on Mount Everest in 1963. The peak serves as a memorial to mountaineers who have lost their lives pursuing their passion for climbing. It has become an important objective for those attempting to complete all of Idaho's 12ers.
