About Hamlin Peak
Hamlin Peak is the second highest peak in Maine at 4,752 feet and sits on the northwest shoulder of Katahdin. The summit offers spectacular views of the North Basin, a glacial cirque, and the vast Maine wilderness. The peak provides a somewhat less crowded alternative to Katahdin's main summit while offering equally impressive scenery.
History
Named after Hannibal Hamlin, Abraham Lincoln's first Vice President and a Maine native, the peak has been a hiking destination since trails were first established on Katahdin. The Hamlin Ridge Trail provides direct access to the summit from Chimney Pond.
