Longs Peak
#15About Longs Peak
Longs Peak rises to 14,259 feet (4,346 m) as the northernmost 14er in Colorado and the highest point in Rocky Mountain National Park. The distinctive flat-topped summit and sheer east face (the Diamond) make it one of Colorado's most recognizable peaks. The standard Keyhole Route requires scrambling and careful route-finding, attracting experienced hikers from around the world.
History
Named after Major Stephen Long who led an expedition that spotted the peak in 1820, Longs Peak was first summited in 1868 by William Byers and the one-armed explorer John Wesley Powell. The peak has significant climbing history, with the Diamond face being one of the most famous technical climbing walls in North America.
