#51About Mount of the Holy Cross
Mount of the Holy Cross rises to 14,007 feet (4,269 m) and is famous for the snow-filled cross on its northeast face. History
The cross formation made this peak one of the most famous mountains in America in the late 1800s. Photographer William Henry Jackson's 1873 photograph spread the mountain's fame nationwide. Pilgrims traveled for days to view the cross, and it became a National Monument before being returned to regular National Forest status.
