Mount Harvard stands at 14,424 feet (4,396 m) as the third highest summit in the Rocky Mountains and the highest of the Collegiate Peaks. The peak was named during the 1869 survey by members of the Wheeler Survey, part of a tradition of naming Sawatch peaks after prestigious universities. The standard route via the South Slopes is long but non-technical, offering sweeping views of the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness.
History
Mount Harvard was named by members of the Harvard Mining School who were exploring the region in 1869 as part of the first geological survey of Colorado. It anchors the Collegiate Peaks group, which also includes Yale, Princeton, Columbia, and Oxford.
