Culebra Peak
#42About Culebra Peak
Culebra Peak rises to 14,053 feet (4,283 m) as the southernmost 14er and the only one located entirely on private property. Access requires payment of a fee and permission from the landowners. The peak's name means 'snake' in Spanish. Despite access restrictions, the climb itself is straightforward.
History
The only privately-owned 14er, Culebra sits on the historic San Luis Valley land grant, one of the largest private landholdings in the United States. The access fee has been controversial but necessary for peak baggers seeking to complete all 14ers.
