Challenger Point
#56About Challenger Point
Challenger Point stands at 14,091 feet (4,295 m) and was added to the official list in 1987, named in memory of the Space Shuttle Challenger crew. While lacking 300 feet of prominence, it's often climbed with Kit Carson Peak. The connecting ridge offers spectacular views of the Sangre de Cristo Range.
History
Named in 1987 to honor the seven astronauts who perished in the Challenger disaster, the peak serves as a memorial to their sacrifice. It remains one of the newer additions to the named 14er list.
