Capitol Peak towers at 14,138 feet (4,309 m) as one of the most challenging and dangerous 14ers. The infamous 'Knife Edge' ridge requires careful scrambling with severe exposure on both sides. Reserved for experienced mountaineers with solid Class 4 skills, Capitol is considered by many to be the most difficult standard route among all 14ers.
History
Named for its resemblance to the U.S. Capitol dome, the peak has a reputation as one of the most technical and committing 14ers. The Knife Edge section has been the site of numerous accidents and rescues, earning the peak a fearsome reputation.
