Mount Blue Sky
#14About Mount Blue Sky
Mount Blue Sky (formerly Mount Evans) towers at 14,268 feet (4,349 m) and features the highest paved road in North America, making it accessible to those who cannot hike. The Mount Evans Scenic Byway reaches to within 130 feet of the summit. On clear days, the views extend across the Great Plains and include Denver, 40 miles away. The summit area hosts a research station and gift shop.
History
Originally named Mount Evans after Colorado's second territorial governor John Evans, the peak was renamed Mount Blue Sky in 2023 following recognition of Evans' role in the Sand Creek Massacre. The summit road, completed in 1930, has made this one of Colorado's most visited high peaks.
