Blanca Peak
#4About Blanca Peak
Blanca Peak rises to 14,350 feet (4,374 m) as the fourth highest summit in Colorado and the highest peak in the Sangre de Cristo Range. The peak is one of the four sacred mountains of the Navajo people, known as Sisnaajiní or 'White Shell Mountain.' The massif is remote and challenging, with multiple routes requiring careful route-finding and scrambling.
History
Blanca Peak has been a sacred site for Native American peoples for centuries. Spanish explorers named it 'Sierra Blanca' (White Mountain) for its year-round snowfields visible from the San Luis Valley. The peak is considered one of the four sacred mountains marking the boundaries of the Navajo homeland.
