Mount Antero stands at 14,271 feet (4,350 m) and is famous for its gem deposits, particularly aquamarine crystals. The peak offers a 4WD road to near the summit, making it one of the most accessible high peaks. Rockhounds and peak baggers alike are drawn to this unique mountain in the Sawatch Range.
History
Named after a Ute chief, Mount Antero has been famous among mineral collectors since the late 1800s. The mountain produces some of the world's finest aquamarine crystals, and claims have been staked on its slopes for over a century.
