Rocky Mountain
#35About Rocky Mountain
Rocky Mountain was once thought to stand at 3,508 feet, but more precise measurements found it to be 3,487 feet. Despite being below the 3,500-foot threshold, the Catskill 3500 Club voted to keep it on their official list. It's considered one of the most inaccessible of the high peaks and is often climbed in conjunction with Lone Mountain.
History
Rocky Mountain earned its name from its rocky, rugged terrain. Despite recent measurements showing it falls just short of the 3,500-foot elevation requirement, the Catskill 3500 Club decided to maintain its status as an official high peak due to its historical inclusion on the list.
