Hunter Mountain is the second highest peak in the Catskills at 4,040 feet (1,231 m). The summit is home to a fire tower that provides 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains. It is a popular hiking destination with several trails leading to the summit.
History
Hunter Mountain was named after the town of Hunter, which was established in 1790. The current fire tower at the summit, standing since 1953, is the third tower to grace the mountain. The mountain was once a thriving ski resort area and continues to be popular for outdoor recreation throughout the year.
