Black Dome
#3About Black Dome
Black Dome is the third highest peak in the Catskills and the tallest of the three peaks in the Blackhead Range. The Black Dome Range Trail traverses the peak, featuring steep pitches and challenging ledges from both approaches. While the summit is largely viewless, the trails leading to it offer spectacular vistas.
History
Black Dome is part of the historic Blackhead Range, which has been a popular hiking destination since the 19th century. The mountain gets its name from its dark appearance when viewed from a distance, due to the dense evergreen forest that covers its upper slopes.
