Balsam Lake Mountain features a restored fire tower at its summit that offers spectacular 360-degree views. It's one of the westernmost of the Catskill High Peaks and offers a relatively moderate hiking experience compared to some of the more challenging peaks.
History
Balsam Lake Mountain was one of the first mountains in the Catskills to have a fire observation tower, with the original tower constructed in 1919. The current tower has been restored and is open to the public as an observation post with panoramic views.
