About Camels Hump
Camels Hump is Vermont's fourth highest peak at 4,078 feet and one of only three Vermont peaks with alpine vegetation. Its distinctive profile is Vermont's most recognizable mountain landmark. The summit offers 360-degree views of the Green Mountains, Adirondacks, and White Mountains.
History
Originally called 'The Couching Lion' by early settlers, Camels Hump got its current name from its distinctive shape. The summit area is protected as a Natural Area, and the rare alpine plants are carefully managed. The Long Trail crosses the summit, and multiple trails provide access from various directions.
