Allen Mountain - 2/11
Allen Mountain
Snowshoes car to car. I was the only one in the parking lot. LOTS of snow, I was very grateful for the snowshoe highway though, you could see the shape of it, so it made route finding for the first 7.5 miles easy. There was about 3-6 inches of fresh snow at the start all the way to 3000'. Then it got way deeper. Any sign of the highway disappeared completely at around 3400' ish. The last 700 feet was really brutal. The wind gusts on the open face of Allen were strong and the deep snow was slick, I kept sliding back down. Ice axe came out and was punching holds while i got good snow shoe foot holds (probably a sign I need to also give my snowshoes some TLC with a metal file).
The high note of the day I saw a Weasle chasing a Bunny.
